My Bob Hairstyle
My bob haircut journey started as a knee jerk decision I made one day on my way home from work when I was sick and tired of my long but thin, pretty but lifeless hair style, or lack thereof of a style. I had pretty decent length (about 18) but I was doing absolutely nothing with it. Everyday -- a bun or a ponytail. That was pretty much it. No umph, no flavor, nothing. Just plain and homely looking. On top of that, it was very weak and fine, so it was constantly shedding, everywhere. I was so tired of it. So I just popped in to the JCPenney stylist one day -- no appointment or anything, and asked who was available to cut my hair. Now this was totally a leap of faith because I knew nothing about any of the stylists there. I just knew somebody should be able to do something with it. Thankfully I met a wonderful stylist there, told her I had no idea what I wanted I just knew I needed to do something because I was so over this stringy, see through hair.
An hour and a half later I had a whole new look, and I was sort of afraid to go home because I told noone at home I was doing this. My husband met me with long hair and never saw me with anything other than long hair. The kids would be shocked, hubby would be shocked, but I was thrilled! The stylist cut a nice bob hairstyle for me -- not too short at all, but it was different for me. She put in lots of layers which I loved and I couldn't have been happier.
When I got home, my whole family was stunned, but thankfully they approved. Even if they didn't approve, what could they do about it? Besides, I was happy so I decided they just have to get used to it, since they are not the ones who have to deal with this stuff.
Anyway, fast forward a couple years and a few trims and cuts later.... I have gone from layers, which I thoroughly miss, to a blunt cut, which I also love, and now to this date, my bob has grown pretty much completely out. It is still a bob per se, but now it is a long bob. I miss the good old short days though and pretty soon I will probably cut several inches off again. It is so much better for me that way, it looks better on me, not only that, the longer my hair gets, the thinner it looks and the more it sheds. All good reasons for me to keep it short. The shorter lengths for me look and feel healthier.
